About Us

About who we are:

The Lake Travis High School Sailing Team is a SEISA certified sailing team stationed out of the Austin Yacht Club in Lakeway, Texas. We represent Lake Travis all across the state and are also already on our way to representing Lake Travis nationally. Practices are very much enjoyed by our sailors which are hosted twice a week across two seasons (March-June spring season or August-November fall season) on Lake Travis. The team sails on boats called FJ’s (Flying Juniors) which are 16 feet long two-person boats that are fun and easy to sail, yet challenging to master.

We have been having practices at the Austin Yacht Club for several years and have well over 35 members in our practices. Some of our sailors have been sailing for years and will be looking forward to having 1 on 1 sailing session with you. Other of our sailors have been sailing for a year or two and are already making a statement at the state level. But of course, we welcome you no matter if you have years of experience, or have never even been on a boat in your life.

Our History

A little over a year ago Julius Heitkoetter and Lucy Brock founded the high school sailing program under LTHS and with much support from the Austin Yacht Club. The team has two US Sailing certified coaches- Jeff Brock and Spencer LeGrande as well as full support from the Austin Yacht Club. The team’s organizers include Constance Heitkoetter and other active parents in the program. Currently, the team has full support and integration with the high school, offering everything from optional club meetings, to acsess to promotional events, to a full service PE waiver. The club has expanded into Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram social networks (visit our contact us page to follow and like) and has an email list going as well (email your first and last name to lthssail@gmail.com)
