A Full Summer for LTHS Sailing

This summer the LTHS Sailing Team had kids racing around the nation, at several national-level events, from the west coast all the way to the east coast. Most notably of these events was the US Sailing Championship, which our teams qualified to go to this past spring and then went up to race against the best talent in America.

After many days of racing in San Fransisco, the team had an outstanding performance, with one team coming in 4th (Lucy Brock and Julius Heitkoetter) and the other one in 9th (James Brock and Nathan Gantala). Below are some of their own stories about the event:

We arrived on Augest 7th and spent much of the day making sure out boats were tuned and ready to go. The next day, US sailing provided coach that gave us a wonderful seminar about the local conditions. Over the next three days we raced in conditions ranging from flat water to t foot waves with 35 mph winds! After all the races were completed, we cleaned up and put our charter boats away and got ready for our next big event.

It was an experience I will never forget. San Fransisco is known in the sailing community for it’s incredible winds and tough conditions and this regatta definately lived up to that. On and off the water I made many new friends as well as got to spend alot of time with old ones. I hope we can go to represent Texas again next year!

Overall, we are very proud of our sailors for representing Lake Travis and all of Texas so well at this championship. To further see how they did and about the US Sailing Championship click here and below are some pictures from the event!
